RIKEN Wako Campus Entry Procedures for Visitors

Visitors are asked to pre-register for entry to the premises of RIKEN Wako Campus through the laboratory/section that they will be visiting.

For the pre-registration procedures, please refer to “Applying for pre-registration.”

Things to remember when coming to RIKEN Wako Campus

  • You may be asked to present your photo ID for entry procedures.
  • On campus, please make sure to wear the One-Day Entry Permit around your neck so that it is visible. The permit is issued at the West Gate Guard Station.
  • If you are visiting RIKEN by car, please read the "Visiting RIKEN by car."
  • RIKEN is a smoke-free campus. (News: RIKEN is Smoke-Free as of April 2024)
  • Entry onto campus for the purpose of sales without appointment or to hand out leaflets is not allowed.

Applying for pre-registration

  • Please make a request for pre-registration with the laboratory/section you will be visiting at least one business day before the day of your visit. Note: To register you will be asked to provide the following information: (1) Full name (Include name in kanji with hiragana/katakana if applicable), (2) Affiliation (company, university etc.), (3) Contact information (telephone number), and (4) License plate number (if visiting by car).
  • Once the pre-registration is complete, a "reception number" is issued. Please receive it from the laboratory/section you are visiting.
  • Upon arrival, please present your "reception number” and full name at the guard station to receive a One-Day Entry Permit.

Visiting RIKEN by car

At Wako Campus, we are promoting the effective usage of parking and decreasing the number of cars entering RIKEN due to a shortage of parking spaces. Please read the following items (1 and 2) to understand the entry process and parking rules. We also encourage visitors to use public transport or to carpool, if at all possible. When parking your car on campus, please make sure to place the Parking Permit on the dashboard or somewhere in the car visible from outside.

1. Entry onto the premises for contract work, delivery, participating in competitive biddings or explanatory meetings for biddings

  • Please apply for registration for entry at the guard station to receive a One-Day Entry Permit and Parking Permit.
  • In principle, you must park your car in the designated area (see Wako Campus Parking Map) on campus and must not park on the streets.
Note: An exception would be for visitors to park their vehicles for a short time anywhere on campus to deliver parcels or goods. (However, parking is not allowed in front of the main entrances of buildings. Parking in any one location is limited to a maximum of 30 minutes.)
  • Vehicles for construction and other contract work are only allowed to be parked at the West Gate parking, South Gate Parking, and East Area Parking 2 (Wako Campus Parking MapM.) except when they are used for the work. Use of other parking spaces is not allowed.

2. Entry for interviews with RIKEN personnel or by request of RIKEN

  • Please make a request to the laboratory/section you are visiting at least one business day before the day of visit and receive a "reception number" that is issued upon completion of the pre-registration processed through the laboratory/section you are visiting.
  • Upon arrival, please provide your "reception number” and full name at the guard station to receive a One-Day Entry Permit and Parking Permit.

Thank you for your cooperation.
